Since the dawn of time, football players have been out to get a better handle on things.
In the 1970s, Oakland’s Lester Hays was the posterboy for Stickum, a sticky goop that took all of the effort out of catching the ball. Things turned south for Hays, shown applying some of the good stuff, when the NFL banned Stickum in 1981.
Since then, gloves have become the players’ weapon of choice — and not just for receivers.
Linebackers and defensive backs obviously use them to defend in the passing game, running backs use them to keep a better grip on the ball, linemen use them to get a better grip on their opponents and even some quarterbacks use gloves on their throwing hands.
Gloves have evolved tremendously over the years, and now they’re not only effective in helping to improve your game, they’re extremely comfortable too.
In this blog, we’ll show you a quality glove for different position groupings.
For linebackers and running backs: The Nike Treadlock Assassin. This lightweight, high-tack glove significantly improves grip and doesn’t lose any performance when wet. Reviewer MM Distroction called them “the best gloves I’ve ever had.”
For receivers and defensive backs: The Reebok NFL Velocity Grip. These form-fitting, featherweight gloves stick to your hand, and their Griptonite palm sticks to the ball. Use our current deal of the week, and get these bad boys for a few pennies over $20.
For linemen: The Nike D-Tack. These gloves have a padded, rugged exterior for doing battle in the trenches and leather palms for making sure you never lose your grip.
